Commitment to NEVER Drink and Drive (Re-Done Poem)

Fri Feb 10, 2006, 12:57 PM

:new: NEW NEWS :new:

Every Fifteen Minutes

I went to a party, Mom,
And I remember what you said.
You told me not to drink,
So I drank Sprite instead.

I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would.
That I didn't drink and drive,
Though some friends said I should.

I made a healthy choice,
And your advice to me was right.
The party finally ended
And the kids drove out of sight.

I got into my car,
Sure to get home in one piece.
I never knew what was coming, Mom,
Something I expected least.

Now I'm lying on the pavement,
And I hear the policeman say,
The kid that caused this wreck was drunk,
Mom, his voice seems so far away.

Every fifteen minutes,
Someone Drinks and Drives.
But when they get behind the wheel,
I'm the one who dies.

There's blood everywhere, Mom,
And most of it is mine.
I hear the Paramedic say,
She will die in a short time.

I'm sure the guy had no idea,
When he was flying high.
Because he chose to drink and drive,
Now I would have to die.

So why do people do it, Mom,
Knowing it ruins lives?
And now the pain is cutting me,
Like a hundred stabbing knives.

There's pain in my chest, Mom,
I'm getting really scared.
Why must I suffer,
When I wasn't impaired?

Tell my brother not to cry,
Tell Daddy to be brave.
And when I go to Heaven,
Put "Daddys Girl" on my grave.

My breath is getting shorter, Mom,
I'm getting really scared.
These are my final moments,
And I'm so unprepared.

I wish that you could hold me, Mom,
As I lay here to die.
I wish I could say I love you, Mom,
So I love youand goodbye.

:bulletred: We had a two-hour long assembly today at school where all of the kids who "died" or will "die" this year because of DUI drivers (43 students) completed the ceremony and we had a funeral for those kids. Every one of the students' parents came and watched the preformance, first putting out the "light of their life" (a candle) then having people speak up front. One of the girls that had died because of the "DUI driver" came up and she recited the poem above. There was another man who told a story about how his fifteen-year-old son and his best friend had been killed by a DUI driver; his oldest son's best friend.

:bulletred: Every time you get behind the wheel, you hold responsibility for your actions. DUI drivers get 4 years behind bars, killing a person with a vehicle gets you 10 years per person, and hurting someone gets you 2 years per person. The "DUI" girl killed two people, and hurt two others. That alone got her 28 years, and, with no-bail, gets her 29 years behind bars. A teenager at the age of 17 will be behind bars until he or she is 40 years of age.

:bulletred: :bulletred: I make the commitment to never Drink and Drive. :bulletred: :bulletred:
:bulletred: :bulletred: I commit to never get into a vehicle with a driver who has been drinking. :bulletred: :bulletred:
:bulletred: :bulletred: I commit to challenge and encourage my friends and family to do the same. :bulletred: :bulletred:
:bulletred: :bulletred: I COMMIT TO BE THE DESIGNATED DRIVER TO MY FRIENDS WHO PARTY. :bulletred: :bulletred:

:bulletred: If you support this, re-post this Commitment in your Journal or on your Front Page to alert people to be cautious and be aware of their choices of drinking, driving, and, most importantly, their responsibility. :bulletred:

:bulletred: Every Fifteen Minutes someone in the U.S. is killed because of a DUI driver. We just had a dramitization today at school where every student was underage, and almost all got hurt. One person had died, one was paralyzed and could not feel his legs, and yet two others were bleeding, but were alive, though not responding. The girl who called in the "accident" was in a green car, while the other uninjured person was in a black car. The girl in the black car was the DUI driver, and promptly got arrested. Everyone else went to the hospital in a medic van. It all looked so real. There were two fire trucks, one police car, and one ambulance that appeared there and they all made it seem so convincing.

:bulletred: It was quite sad to watch because I had to call in to the paramedics because of a death of a friend in a car accident not too long ago, and it also reminded me of a friend who died in a car crash late last year.

:bulletred: There were strange things going on today; one person fainted this morning from an overdose of drugs, one of the "dead people" (people who had to wander around school and not talk to anyone or give off any expressions to anyone) had fainted due to a heat stroke, and then, yet again one of my friends collapsed due to a heat stroke during our Lunch hour.

:bulletred: So far, nothing has been heard back from Chris as to what his condition is, but I hope he's okay... I was talking to him about 30 seconds beforehand, and then ho promptly fell over. The Narks and medics were on him really quickly after we shouted for help. It was all too scary. I thought Cris' girlfriend was going to faint as well. She was shaking so hard and she looked like she was going to hurl. Poor girl; I hope she's alright... I hope everyone's alright...

:bulletred: On a more positive note, my friend wanted to do Cosplay Photo Session, so we dressed her up in my Pirate costume, so expect some pictures from me on that here soon. I love some of the ones I took, they just look waay too cool not to share. :D

:bulletred: Its been hectic and wierd all this week, and it'll keep going on until the end of the week, I know it...

I feel as if my being has left no trace of existance as a pebble thrown into a river leaves at the surface...
:iconmiraitrunksbaby:
Yeah, it's not the real version. I'll re-do this one and make it right in a minute.

I'm very sentimental about stuff I support. The Journal is to place what goes on in your life, and to inform people af going-son. I decided it would be good to tell people who have never had this, or people who weren't here, what went on and how I felt about it.

woman came out of a man's rib. Not from his feet to be walked on. Not from his head to be superior, but from the side to be equal. Under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved

That's probably the saddest poem I will ever read... *cries* Yes I'm EMOtional, get over it.

You know, at this point in my life, I don't think I'll have to worry about drinking. Alcahol enduced beverages tastes like shit (mom made me taste it), and Apple Cider is so much better ^_^

15% of the teens out there have died from drug abuse. If you're one of the 85% who are sick of these statistics, smile the day away.

Yeah, but it's not you you have to worry about, but the other drunks there. Most of the time the innocent people die, and the drunks stay alive, with broken bones and such.
